We have all been there before when it's the beginning of the year, and we arrive at class early. Attend all classes and write down all of the assignments that are due that week in our journal. And religiously refer back to our agendas. But as the first month went by, we found ourselves hanging by a thread. Having to play catch up with our lectures, arriving to class late, if at all. We let our agendas collect dust in our backpacks. But we can change this by applying three tips to keep up with our academics throughout the year.

Utilizing Resources
Many students think they have limited resources to help them out. But in today's society, that is not the case. Students have teachers, parents, friends, and technology to help them. The challenge is that students may need guidance on how to utilize each resource. One resource that I know students use at the beginning of the year and fall off is teachers. Teachers are your friends; they want to see their students succeed. If you are unclear about concepts or any material, don't be afraid to ask the teacher. You can ask during, before, or after class, and if some students are afraid (trust me, I have been there) students can even email or text their teachers. Another resource that students can take advantage of is helpful apps that can track how long you spend time on an assignment or apps that help with time blocking and so much more.

Study Schedules and Habits
Time blocking and scheduling is a big factor in having a good academic year. Not just time blocking the calendar with assignments students know they should do but never get around to doing it. This sets students up for failure. Implementing this tip can be a little challenging, but if you have assignments that you find a little more interesting, work on that after you have done an assignment that you know you need to get done but don't feel like (the assignment you like can be considered an award). If you stick to this pattern you will continue to do good things throughout the school year. While students are time blocking don't forget to also schedule time for relaxing.
Staying Organized
When we are clear, and organized about our goals and where we want to see ourselves at the end of the year. This vision creates a destination and a path to get there. Which makes the journey that much sweeter. Organizing your goals and success that you want is a start, but keeping workspaces, binders, and backpacks organized is also helpful. When using this tip students can keep track of assignments and items. Have you heard the saying clear space clearer mind? Without chaos, student's minds can have space for filling it with knowledge instead of trying to remember where things were.
Adopting these three tips and tricks can make a difference in guaranteeing a successful academic year. Utilizing available resources, creating study schedules and habits, and staying organized-students lay the foundation of their academic journey. Success is not just about the final grades, but the growth, resilience, and skills that students implement along their journey. Here's to a year filled with accomplishments, personal development, and the satisfaction of knowing you've given your best!
